Visit to Lenlai Fest: Sociology Department

On February 21, 2025, the Department of Sociology accepted a special invitation to attend Lenlai Fest 2025, hosted by ICFAI University Mizoram at Durtlang. The event featured a packed program, divided into three sessions: an inaugural session, book release, Meet the Authors, Meet the Professionals, and an interactive session.

The program boasted an impressive lineup of renowned guests, including eminent personalities from the fields of social activism, dignitaries, and local music. Beyond the formal sessions, attendees also enjoyed local handloom products, concerts, and carnivals. Overall, the diverse program left attendees highly satisfied. The program was attended by 6th Semester students and three faculty members.

International Mother Language Day Observed by Mizo Department

Department Activity

The Department of Mizo observed International Mother Language Day by organizing programmes both at the Mualpui and Sikulpuikawn campuses on February 21, 2025.

The programme at the Conference Hall, Mualpui Campus was attended by IV & VI Semester students. Dr. B Vanlalthlana chaired the programme, and Prof. C Vanlalhruaia, Mr. Rochamliana and students discussed the importance of the Mizo language, its usage and significance of preserving it.

At the Sikulpuikawn campus, Mrs. Lalremveli Chenkual and Mrs. K Zonunmawii conducted the event for II Semester students in the Mizo Core room.

GAC Golden Jubilee Inter-College Basketball Tournament Held

The Sports Committee and the Golden Jubilee Committee of Government Aizawl College successfully organized an Inter-College Basketball Tournament during February 11-14, 2025 at the Basketball Court, Mualpui campus of Government Aizawl College. The event was sponsored by Khatla TBL and recognized by the Mizoram Basketball Association (MBBA).

A total of 9 teams from 7 colleges across Aizawl participated in the tournament. The colleges engaged in fierce competition, displaying remarkable skill and sportsmanship.

4. Government J. Thankima College

5. Government Aizawl North College

6. ICFAI University Mizoram

7. Government T. Romana College

For the closing ceremony held on February 14, the chief guest was Mr. H. Lalengmawia, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary. He encouraged participants to “Learn While You Play and Play While You Learn,” highlighting its benefits for overall growth. The event was further enhanced by the presence of the TBL Family and the MBBA team, who attended as distinguished guests.

Government Hrangbana College Team-B emerged victorious in the tournament and was awarded the Winner’s Trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 30,000. Government Hrangbana College Team-A secured the runner-up position, receiving the Runner-up Trophy and a cash prize of Rs 15,000. Mr. Lalrindika, representing Government Hrangbana College Team-B, was recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament for his exceptional contributions and standout performances.

The tournament provided a platform for constructive competition, promoting teamwork and good sportsmanship among the participating colleges. The days were filled with exciting games and memorable moments that highlighted the skill and commitment of the student-athletes. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all teams for participating in the Government Aizawl College Golden Jubilee Inter-College Basketball Tournament and for their outstanding efforts in making it a huge success.

Household Survey at Hmuifang: Economics Department

On February 14, 2025, the Department of Economics conducted a Household Survey in Hmuifang, the College’s adopted village. A total of 52 sixth semester students and four faculty members participated in the survey. This initiative aimed to assess the economic conditions of households in the village, focusing on income levels, livelihood sources, and the impact of government schemes.

A representative sample of sixty households was selected using random sampling to ensure diverse economic background. Structured questionnaires were administered, supplemented by interviews to gain deeper insights.

The survey emphasized the need for improved infrastructure, improvement in education and skill development initiatives to enhance economic opportunities in the village.

Campaign on “Public Education on Environment Protection & Conservation Laws, Climate Change & Sustainable Practices”

In collaboration with Government Aizawl College's Legal Cell, the Mizoram State Legal Services Authority held a special campaign on "Public Education on Environment Protection & Conservation Laws, Climate Change & Sustainable Practices" on February 13, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in the Conference Hall at the Mualpui Campus. Participating were 161 students from the Department of Political Science, Mizo, English, and History.

Mr. Lalbiakzuala, Principal, Govt Aizawl College presided over the programme. Justice Michael Zothankhuma of the Gauhati High Court and Executive Chairman of the MSLA gave the keynote address stressing on land restoration and environment preservation. Environmentalist and MENCO General Secretary Mr. Vanlalhrima gave a presentation on "Balanced Ecosystem." A productive interactive session ensued. The programme ended with the vote of thanks given by Mr. Vincent Lalrokima, Member Secretary, Mizoram SLSA.
