About
There has always been a cultural troupe at the college under the aegis of the Students' Union Social and Cultural Department. They would perform at various college functions and at cultural festivals within and outside Mizoram. In 2016, with cultural clubs of various local colleges adopting a name and identity of their own outside of the Students’ Union, the then Social and Cultural Secretary of the Students’ Union and some members of the performing troupe thought it necessary to form a cultural club within the College and established the Govt. Aizawl College Cultural Club on July 16, 2016. A membership drive was carried out from the start of the academic session in July 2016. Office-bearers were appointed two months later, and the club was named ‘Huiva Cultural Club’ on September 13, 2016. The date of establishment is regarded to be July 16, 2016 and is now annually observed as Club Day.
All students and faculty members of Government Aizawl College who want to preserve the cultural heritage of the Mizo are welcome to be members of the Club by paying an annual enrolment fee of Rs. 10. Club members practise on Mondays and Thursdays after classes, and also engage in fundraising, having no sponsorship from any source. In September 2023, they won first prize at a prestigious state-wide competition organised by the state government.
