About The Department
The Department of Political Science was set up along with the establishment of the College in 1975. There are presently eight faculty members in the Department.
The Department collaborated with the Mizoram Political Science Association to organize an ICSSR-sponsored National Seminar on 'Resurgence of Nationalism: Citizenship, Identity and Belonging’ during October 17 & 18, 2019 with Professor R.K. Satapathy, Honorary Director ICSSR (NER) as the keynote speaker of the seminar.

|Political Science Department Activity
The Department of Political Science visited the College's adopted village, Hmuifang Village, on October 23, 2024. During the visit, students carried out a local survey about the Public Distribution System (PDS) using questionnaires, gaining practical understanding and valuable academic insights.
The Customs Aizawl Division, Government of India, sponsored a cleanliness drive, where students collected waste from residential streets, public spaces, and common public areas. The cleanliness drive successfully reduced waste, improved sanitation and hygiene and promoted community engagement, instilling a sense of ownership and responsibility among the students. During the visit, students also stopped by the College's plantation site.
Sixty four students from V semester and six faculties participated in this programme. The programme gave students and faculty a memorable experience, building connections with the community and each other. It provided students with valuable insights into social responsibility, academics and environmental awareness.

|Political Science Department Activity
The National Symposium on "Vision Aizawl City After 20 Years: Making Aizawl Liveable and Safe City" was held on October 7, 2024, at Government Aizawl College, Mualpui. The event was organized by the Departments of Political Science and Education, and inaugurated by Hon'ble Home Minister Mr. K. Sapdanga, who stressed the importance of vision, morality, education, and self-employment skills. 147 students and 25 faculties attended the programme.

- Making Aizawl Liveable: Mr. CC Lalchhuangkima, CEO of ASCL, highlighted the need for reliable public transport, junction improvement, solar rooftops, efficient traffic management, rainwater harvesting, proper drainage, and public spaces to make Aizawl a liveable city in 20 years.
- Vision for Urban Infrastructure after 20 Years in Aizawl: Mr. Andrew Lalhruaia emphasized the crucial role of urban infrastructure in a city's economy and quality of life, referencing Aizawl's Master Plan (2030 and 2040) as development guidelines.
- Urban Local Governance after 20 years: Mr. Lalremruata Kullai discussed the history of local self-governance in India and the formation of the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC).
- Vision for Urban Mobility: Mr. HVL Zarzoenga presented a 20-year plan for transforming Aizawl's transportation landscape, stressing the importance of sustainability and public transportation.
- Vision for Aizawl Liveable City after 20 years: Mr. Benjamin L. Saitluanga noted Aizawl's rapid growth and the need for devolution, strategic branding, and addressing housing challenges, highlighting the city's unique vertical transition spaces that prevent sprawling slums.
- Urbanism in Contemporary Northeast India: Mr. Ramengmawia emphasized the rise of innovative urban practices customized to meet local requirements and underscored the increasing significance of specialized urban studies programs offered by Indian universities.

|Political Science Department Activity
The Department of Political Science held a program on October 7, 2024, as part of Alumni Week. Mr. Malsawmzuala Ralte, Chairman of Mizo Youth Commission and Corporator of AMC Ward XVIII, was the resource person.
Mr. Malsawmzuala Ralte delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the importance of setting clear goals and a well-defined aim. He highlighted MYC initiatives, including coaching for competitive exams, skill development programs, and ongoing projects for youths. Stressing the value of skills acquisition, particularly language proficiency, he encouraged students to enhance their English skills. He ended his speech saying "Be the one who fails failure itself. Set a clear goal, work diligently, and strive for excellence." to inspire the students. The program concluded with a productive Q&A session and the students had a fruitful interaction.
The program was held at the V Semester Political Science Core Room and attended by 80 V semester students.
