About
The motto of the National Service Scheme (NSS) is 'Not Me But You'. It is a public service programme conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India since 1969. The primary objective is to develop the personality and character of students through voluntary community service. ‘Education through Service’ is the purpose of the NSS.
The NSS unit at Government Aizawl College plays a vital role in fostering social responsibility and active citizenship among students. Through a wide range of activities such as blood donation drives, community outreach programmes, cleanliness drives, awareness campaigns and volunteer activities, the NSS encourages students to contribute meaningfully to society while developing leadership and teamwork skills. Among the most impactful activities of the GAC NSS unit are the blood donation drives, which have become a hallmark of the college’s commitment to public welfare. Organized in collaboration with local health authorities and the Red Ribbon Club, these blood donation drives not only help save lives but also instil a deep sense of civic duty and empathy among student donors.
With enthusiastic participation from students across departments, the NSS fosters a culture of giving and social responsibility. Aligned with the college’s commitment to holistic education, the NSS instils values of empathy, discipline, and civic engagement—empowering students to be agents of positive change in Mizoram and beyond.
