About
The motto of the National Service Scheme (NSS) is 'Not Me But You'. It is a public service programme conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India since 1969. The primary objective is to develop the personality and character of students through voluntary community service. ‘Education through Service’ is the purpose of the NSS.
The NSS unit at Government Aizawl College plays a vital role in fostering social responsibility and active citizenship among students. Through a wide range of activities such as blood donation drives, community outreach programmes, cleanliness drives, awareness campaigns and volunteer activities, the NSS encourages students to contribute meaningfully to society while developing leadership and teamwork skills. Among the most impactful activities of the GAC NSS unit are the blood donation drives, which have become a hallmark of the college’s commitment to public welfare. Organized in collaboration with local health authorities and the Red Ribbon Club, these blood donation drives not only help save lives but also instil a deep sense of civic duty and empathy among student donors.
With enthusiastic participation from students across departments, the NSS fosters a culture of giving and social responsibility. Aligned with the college’s commitment to holistic education, the NSS instils values of empathy, discipline, and civic engagement—empowering students to be agents of positive change in Mizoram and beyond.

The GAC Sports Committee in collaboration with NSS GAC Unit observed National Sports Day on August 30, 2024 (Friday) in line with the theme "Sport for the Promotion of Peaceful and Inclusive Societies" provided by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports at Mualpui Campus. The following indoor and outdoor activities were carried out:

|National Service Scheme (NSS) Club Activity
The NSS GAC Unit in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club organised a Blood Donation Drive on August 30, 2024 (Friday) at Sikulpuikawn Campus, Govt. Aizawl College. In total, 131 units of blood was donated with 111 male and 20 female donors. Two alumni donors were present and an outsider also donated a unit as well. A department-wise break up of donors is as follows:

The National Service Scheme, GAC Unit organised a one-day “Awareness Campaign on Environment & Three New Criminal Laws” on August 7, 2024 (Wednesday) at the Conference Hall, Mualpui Campus. There were three resource persons, namely Mrs. Vanramchhuangi (Ruatfela Nu), Mrs. Saizampuii Sailo and Mrs. Julie Lalrinzami. Mrs. Vanramchhuangi and Mrs. Saizampuii Sailo were representatives of the Centre for Environment and Social Justice (CESJ), as such they both delivered powerful speeches on the importance of environment protection. Mrs. Vanramchhuangi’s speech was centred on the theme ‘Environment first, development second’, while Mrs. Saizampuii Sailo’s speech focused on the importance of our generation in bringing about restoration. Mrs. Julie Lalrinzami, MJS, Addl. District & Session Judge, Aizawl, on the other hand, brought to the attention of the programme attendees the new criminal laws which has been implemented with effect from July 1, 2024 in India. She highlighted important portions of the new criminal laws in a way that can be understood in the minds of laymen. The programme was attended by the 5th Semester students of Education, History, Political Science and Sociology departments.

|National Service Scheme (NSS) Club Activity
The NSS Government Aizawl College Unit organized a Blood Donation Camp in collaboration with the Red Ribbon Club on July 31, 2024 (Wednesday) at the Mualpui Campus. A total of 166 units of blood was donated to the Civil Hospital Blood Bank by 164 students and 2 faculty members. There were 32 female and 134 male donors.
An awareness campaign was organised the previous day, i.e. July 30, 2024 (Tuesday) at 11:30 a.m. at the Courtyard, Mualpui Campus. Lalremruata, the highest blood donor of Mizoram was invited to speak at the occasion. He emphasized that "A unit of blood donated can save the life of another human being". All the students of B.Com along with 3rd Semester & 5th Semester B.A. students attended the programme.

|National Service Scheme (NSS) Club Activity
Green GAC Day 2024 was observed at Mualpui Campus on the 5th June. It had originally been planned for the 28th May but was postponed due to Cyclone Remal which had caused havoc all over the state. It was organised by the GAC NSS Cell and Ecology Club.
Pu Lalchhuanthanga, Hon'ble MLA, Aizawl South II A/C was the Chief Guest at a brief function chaired by the Principal and held in the Conference Hall. He later planted a ceremonial sapling. Volunteers consisting of faculty, office staff and students, including NCC cadets, spent the day planting saplings all around the campus and in some department gardens, and fences were also made for the new plants.
