Orientation Programme for 3rd Semester Students

The Orientation Programme for 3rd Semester students was conducted at the Baptist Convention Centre in Falkland on July 3, 2024. The event was attended by 259 students.

Prof. Vanlalringa Bawitlung presided over the event, highlighting the importance of academic excellence and continuous learning. The programme began with a welcome address by the Principal, Mr. Lalbiakzuala. He encouraged students to make the most of their college experience and utilize the resources available to them for personal and academic growth.

Dr. K Vanrammawia, Secretary, NEP 2020 Implementation Committee, delivered a presentation on the National Education Policy. Dr. Vanlalngaii, Chairperson, Mentoring Cell, discussed the significance of mentoring. Mrs. Elizabeth L. Hmar, Head, Department of English elaborated on the rules and practices of the college.

Mr. Mark V. Vanlalrema, Institutional Coordinator, Skill Development Course under NEP 2020, from the Department of English, spoke about the Skill Enhancement Courses offered by the college. He explained the various courses available, stressing their importance in equipping students with essential skills that would benefit their future careers. All students then registered themselves on the skills of their choice among the selected skill enhancement courses such as, Sports and Physical Education, Beauty and Wellness, Basics of tailoring, Electrical House Wiring, Music: A Learner’s Guide Safety & Emergency Preparedness.

The Orientation Programme for 1st Semester students was conducted at the Baptist Convention Centre in Falkland on July 2, 2024. The event was attended by 534 students out of the 658 enrolled for the semester.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Principal, Mr. Lalbiakzuala. The Vice Principal, Mr. Lalsangzuala Khiangte, presided over the event.

Dr. K Vanrammawia, Secretary, NEP 2020 Implementation Committee, presented a talk on the National Education Policy, outlining its implications and benefits for the students. He highlighted upon the course objectives and course outcomes of the programmes in the new policy. Dr. Vanlalngaii,Chairperson,Mentoring Cell, discussed the importance of mentoring and how students can seek guidance and support from their mentors to enhance their academic and personal development. A representative from Hereus provided a comprehensive overview of the College Management System, explaining how it would facilitate various administrative and academic processes for the students. Mrs. Ngurhmingliani Sailo, Head, Department of Education elaborated on the College Rules and Practices, ensuring that students understood the guidelines and standards expected of them during their time at the institution.

The Orientation Programme set a positive and encouraging start for the new semester.

Faculty Development Programme Organised by IQAC

On July 1, 2024, 1:30 PM, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organised a Faculty Development Programme at the GAC Conference Hall, Mualpui Campus. The programme was inaugurated by the Principal Mr. Lalbiakzuala and attended by the teaching faculty of the college.

Dr. Zolianzuali, IQAC Coordinator introduced the new UGC Binary Accreditation System to be followed from 2024. She highlighted the Maturity Based Graded Accreditation system, which has been developed for the purpose of raising the bar for the standard of higher education. With 5 Levels composed of 10 criteria points, the components of the new accreditation system carry the following weightage: Inputs with 25% and Processes and Outcomes with 75% of the total score. The Coordinator also informed the attendees that preparation of AQAR July 2023 - June 2024 must be taken up by all the IQAC Cells at the earliest.

Following this, there was a presentation by Mr. Jacob, Hereus about changes and updates made to the College Management System. He introduced the new mobile app and new features that include direct messages to (multiple or individual) students, app support for the college's mentoring system and the updated user profile section.

Salient features of the UGC Regulation 2018 was then presented by Dr. Lalmalsawma Khiangte, Assistant Coordinator. He highlighted the various criteria to be fulfilled by all teachers as per UGC Regulation 2018.

The last presentation for the programme was on the College-specific details about NEP implementation, classroom allotments and student-course allotments (Major, Minor, MDC, AEC, SEC, VAC, and NIELIT courses), given by Dr. K. Vanrammawia, Assistant Coordinator. He stressed upon necessary preparations to be made for the Internship/ Apprenticeship/Field work to be carried out by the upcoming Vth Semester students during the next semester.

The training was designed to be interactive and the questions and doubts of the attendees were addressed on the spot by the resource persons.

The Faculty Development Programme concluded with a vote of thanks given by Dr. K. Vanrammawia, Assistant Coordinator of GAC-IQAC.

Inspection Team Visits for Renewal of Provisional Affiliation of PG Course in Education

Department Activity

  1. On June 11, 2024, the Post-Graduate Course in Education was inspected for renewal of provisional affiliation to Mizoram University. The inspection team members consisted of the following:

  1. Prof. H. Malsawmi, Convener, Mizoram University

  2. Dr. Vanlalruatfela Hlondo, Member, Mizoram University

  3. Prof. Lalbiakdiki Hnamte, Chairman, College Development Council, Mizoram University

  4. Prof. B Lalrinsanga, Nodal Officer, NEP 2020, H&TE

The inspection team gathered with the principal, Mr Lalbiakzuala, the Vice Principal, Dr. Lalsangzuala Khiangte, and faculty members of Education Department at the Conference Hall for the interaction. After a welcome address from the principal, Dr Mary L Renthlei, Convener, MA Education, gave a presentation on MA Education highlighting the issues and challenges faced by the department and the progress and achievements as well. She described in detail the necessary information according to the requirements mentioned in the affiliation form including how recommendations from the first inspection have been met. Interaction followed where queries were responded by the principal and the faculty members of the department. MA classrooms, department faculty room, laboratory equipment and psychological tests of the department and other important documents, as well as the college library were then inspected. All faculty members of the department were present for the occasion.

Green GAC Day Observed

Club Activity

Green GAC Day 2024 was observed at Mualpui Campus on the 5th June. It had originally been planned for the 28th May but was postponed due to Cyclone Remal which had caused havoc all over the state. It was organised by the GAC NSS Cell and Ecology Club.

Pu Lalchhuanthanga, Hon'ble MLA, Aizawl South II A/C was the Chief Guest at a brief function chaired by the Principal and held in the Conference Hall. He later planted a ceremonial sapling. Volunteers consisting of faculty, office staff and students, including NCC cadets, spent the day planting saplings all around the campus and in some department gardens, and fences were also made for the new plants.
