Participation at the MIELS LitFest 2024: English Department

On the occasion of ‘LitFest 2024’ organized by Mizoram English Literary Society (MIELS) on September 4, 2024 at Government Hrangbana College, students from Government Aizawl College also participated in the state-wide competitions that marked the festival. These were poetry and short story writing competitions— both done on-the-spot with options from pre-selected themes, an extempore speech competition—which was a new introduction from this year. The college entered in all these items, with R. Lalrinawma, 3rd Semester student of English department clinching the 2nd position for his extempore speech on the topic “Ten years from now, I see myself…”
There was also an acoustic beat contest with song choices from the UG English department course under Mizoram University, where the College Music Club band represented GAC.

State Museum Visit: Mizo Department

Sixty-one students from the Department of Mizo, accompanied by six faculty members, visited the Mizoram State Museum on September 2, 2024. All the students were from the fifth semester and each of them submitted a report of their visit as a part of their assignment for Paper VIII.

National Sports Day Observed by NSS and GAC Sports Committee

The GAC Sports Committee in collaboration with NSS GAC Unit observed National Sports Day on August 30, 2024 (Friday) in line with the theme "Sport for the Promotion of Peaceful and Inclusive Societies" provided by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports at Mualpui Campus. The following indoor and outdoor activities were carried out:

Volleyball (Male & Female)

Disaster Management MOU Signed With Mizoram University

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Mizoram University (MZU) and Govt Aizawl College (GAC), Govt. of Mizoram, on August 30, 2024.
Representatives of the College were led by Lalbiakzuala, Principal, Prof. Vanlalhruaia, Chairman, Disaster Management Committee, Prof.Vanlalringa Bawitlung, Member, Disaster Management Committee and Dr K.Vanrammawia, Asst. Coordinator, IQAC.
Representing MZU were Prof. Lalnundanga, Registrar and Dr. Laldinpuia, Associate Professor, Centre for Disaster Management (Coordinator), along with witnesses Prof. Ch. Udaya Bhaskara Rao, Head i/c of CDM & Head, Dept. of Geography and Dr. R. Zonunsanga, Asst. Professor, Centre for Disaster Management.
The agreement was signed at the MZU Registrar's Office by the representatives of both parties for the preparation of Disaster Management Policy of GAC. MZU (Centre for Disaster Management) will prepare the policy and will also impart awareness and training. The College will implement the policy, conduct training and awareness programs, and make the necessary arrangements related to the policy.

Education Department Visit to Adopted School

The Department of Education and Village & School Adoption Committee visited Neihlaia Memorial Middle School at Hmuifang on August 30, 2024. Stationery items as well as drinks and snacks were gifted by the department and the Vice Principal Dr. Lalsangzuala Khiangte handed over Rs. 25000/- for school development purposes as financial assistance from the college. Students collected data from teachers and students of the school using interview and observation methods which will be compiled and submitted to the college for documentation. The team consisted of 32 students and 8 faculty members.
