Invited Lecture on Educational Guidance and Counselling: Education Department

Department Activity

Dr. Vanlalruatfela Hlondo, Asst. Professor, Department of Education, Mizoram University was invited by the Department of Education to give a special lecture on Educational Guidance and Counselling. It was held at Room 201, Mualpui Campus on September 17, 2024. 7 teaching faculties and 51 students from the 5th Semester attended the programme. Dr. Ruatfela stressed on the significance of educational guidance and counselling; emphasized on the application of guidance and counselling in day-to-day life. The resource person delivered an engaging and enlightening discourse. An enriching interaction was held among the students and the resource person at the end of the meeting.

GAC Bags Top 3 at Hindi Essay Writing Competition

Department Activity

In celebration of Hindi Diwas, observed on 14th September each year, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) organized a Hindi Essay Writing Competition in Aizawl, Mizoram, on September 13, 2024.

Jonathan Lalnunfela from the 3rd semester won the first prize, while R. Lalrawngbawli and Lalruatfeli, both from the 5th semester, secured 2nd and 3rd places, respectively. They were awarded cash prizes and certificates. The event was conducted smoothly and successfully with the cooperation and support of KVIC.

Pre-Golden Jubilee Celebration Programme Held

On September 13, 2024, as a part of the pre-Golden Jubilee celebration, a 'Praise and Worship' programme was held in the college courtyard at 2:00PM for all students and faculty. Dr Mary L Renthlei chaired the event, followed by a short speech from the principal, Mr Lalbiakzuala who informed the gathering about the College Golden Jubilee celebrations and programs lined up for the year. Breakthrough Believers Ministry was invited. Students from all semesters, teachers and non-teaching staff along with the invitees participated in the event.

KVIC People’s Education Programme: Commerce Department & Entrepreneurship Knowledge Cell

Department Activity

The Khadi & Village Industries Commission conducted a People’s Education Programme for B.Com students during August 30 to September 5, 2024 at the College premises. The Entrepreneurship Knowledge Cell organised the programme on behalf of the Department of Commerce.

On the first day, August 30, 2024 (11:00 AM), there was a seminar on the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) at the Conference Hall. At the start of the session, Ms. Lalnunmawii Ralte, Coordinator, gave a brief introduction about the purpose of the programme for the students. Dr. Zolianzuali, Head of Department, chaired the programme and welcomed the guests. Mr. Ved Prakash, Assistant Director, KVIC State Office gave an introductory remark and Mr. Nilimesh Sarkar, Executive, KVIC State Office gave a presentation on various KVIC schemes available for entrepreneurs. He informed the students that KVIC is the nodal agency for PMEGP and highlighted a step by step application process for the scheme.

In the afternoon, Ms. Lalnunmawii Ralte led the Question & Answer round where the students interacted with the resource persons. Mr. Safiyan Hayath, Executive, KVIC State Office patiently answered their queries and clarified common misunderstandings regarding PMEGP loans. The seminar was attended by 97 B.Com (3rd and 5th semester) students and 4 faculty members. After the seminar, there was a short break followed by an on-the-spot Essay Competition in which 14 students took part.

On September 2, 2024 (10:00 AM), there was a Debate Competition on the topic "Solar Energy: A Boon or A Bane for Development" in which 4 students participated, one pair each from 3rd and 5th semesters.

Finally, there was a short felicitation programme held on September 5, 2024 (12:00 PM) in the Principal’s chamber. Mr. A.P. Modak, Director, KVIC State Office and Mr. Lalbiakzuala, Principal handed out cash prizes and certificates to the winners, who are as follows:

Felicitation of Rank Holder and Awareness Programme on Artificial Intelligence: Economics Department

Department Activity

On September 4, 2024, the Department of Economics held a felicitation programme at the Conference Hall, Mualpui Campus to honour Chanchinthahrili who achieved 3rd rank in Economics in the MZU-UG Examination 2024. The event served as an inspiration to all the student attendees, reinforcing the values of diligence and excellence.

On the same day, the Department also organized an awareness programme on artificial intelligence titled ‘AI In Educational Scenario’. The programme began with an opening address by Dr.Andrew Lalsangzela Sailo, Head of Department, who introduced the objectives of the session followed by a short speech from Mr. Lalbiakzuala, Principal, who highlighted the importance of understanding AI in today’s digital age.

The event aimed to educate participants about the basics of AI, its applications and impact on various sectors especially in the educational sector. The keynote presentation was delivered by Mr. Lalengzuala, Informatics Officer, ICT Department, Government of Mizoram, who provided an overview of AI, including its history, key concepts, and current trends. The presentation included engaging visuals and real-world examples to illustrate AI’s impact on various industries. The resource person spoke about how AI has significantly enhanced educational experiences by offering personalized learning, improving efficiency, and expanding accessibility. However, careful consideration of privacy, equity, and ethical issues is essential to ensure that AI's integration into education is both effective and responsible. The engaging presentation and interactive sessions fostered a deeper understanding of AI among participants, highlighting its transformative power in shaping the future. The event was attended by 130 Economics students of 3rd and 5th semesters and 6 faculty members.
