International Mother Language Day 2026 Observed by Hindi & Mizo Departments

On February 23, 2026, at 1:30 PM, the Departments of Mizo and Hindi, in collaboration with PM Usha, organized International Mother Language Day 2026 at the Conference Hall, Mualpui. The theme for this year was “Youth Voices on Multilingual Education”. The programme was attended by students from the II, IV and VI semesters of the Mizo and Hindi departments, with assistance from department faculty, and had an estimated total attendance of 160 people.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of Mrs. Lalremveli Chenkual, Head, Mizo Department, with speeches delivered by Mr. Lalbiakzuala, Principal, Prof. C. Vanlalhruaia, and Dr. Rebecca Lalhmangaihi. Students also actively engaged in the programme by contributing speeches, chanting cultural poems, and delivering live performances. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Lalrinkimi, Head, Hindi Department.
International Mother Language Day is observed across the world on February 21 every year to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism. Since it fell on a Saturday this year, the observance was moved to the following Monday, February 23, which was the first working day.
