Visit to Special Blind School: Education Department

On April 30, 2024, the Department of Education, after obtaining permission, visited Special Blind School, Durtlang, Aizawl, as a part of study tour programme for MA students as a paper on ‘Special Education for Exceptional Children’ is included in the MA syllabus. All students from the school as well as all visitors gathered for interaction where questions were responded by the school principal. Later, the students showed and presented their writings using braille to the visitors. Some read passages from books in braille. The department looks forward to more interaction of this kind in the future and possibility of working together was discussed between the two institutions.
A brief highlight of the institution:
No. of students: 19 (male) 17 (female)
No. of faculty: 13 teachers including Principal, 2 wardens, 1 cook, 2 fourth grade workers.
All students are hostellers except for 2 who live nearby.
Classes start from class 1 to class 10 following MBSE.
Primary and High School levels are run by NGO while Middle level is provincialized.
After the visit to Special Blind School, the department also visited Aizawl Theological College at Durtlang. Classrooms, seminar halls, and other important places in the campus were visited. Five faculty and 25 MA students took part in the study tour.
